8/15/2024 0 Comments We got invited to a WEDDING in INDIA! Get a taste of what it was like. #indianwedding #indiaWhile traveling in India after completing yoga teacher training, a few of my dear sisters and I stayed a while longer and were invited to one of our yoga teacher’s sister’s wedding! We traveled way up into the mountains to visit his very home with his family and all their friends and loved ones. When shopping for the gift in town, people would ask, is the celebration for the bride or the groom, I said I presume both as I didn’t realize in India they celebrate some days for the groom and some days for the bride. I chose bride as it was his sister. When we arrived we realized on this day they were celebrating the groom. It's traditional to bring money and a gift, so we got a card, a nice gift and some money and gave it from “the yoginis." We were treated so kindly and enjoyed interacting with his family. He introduced us to his sister, his grandmother his mom. The whole place was decorated to the 9’s. The groom came riding in on a horse!! He looked so royal and regal. It was so magical to witness! They did mantras, chants, and rituals before lifting the groom on their shoulders and carrying him to wait for his bride. When the bride came out our jaws dropped. I’d never seen a bride in India and didn’t realize they were red! And TONS of bangles, beautiful makeup, henna and jewelry. She looked so beautiful and royal. We watched like young girls ooing and ahhing over her. The food they served was outrageously generous and delicious. They even offered to let us stay the night and one yogini wanted to, but we decided we better get a ride while we could as we were far away from where we stayed at and unsure of where exactly we were and how we’d get back. The next day was a reception, it was so beautiful!! Since the day before it didn’t start until super late, I took my time, yet didn’t realize since the reception was in the town, they have music ordinances and just as I arrived they were dancing their last song and the DJ said and that’s the last one. Haha but I still totally enjoyed myself. My friend Daniela and I got invited in the back to sit with the “boys” and enjoyed a really fun time. In India celebrations can be 3 to 7 days, I believe this was a 7 day ceremony! We caught the last 2 days I believe. We are so grateful to our yoga teacher for inviting us and our other yoga teacher who joined. It was such a blessing and so much fun I thought you all may enjoy a glimpse at what it was like to experience a beautiful wedding in India! With so much love! Christa
